Trans-identified Adult Population

The study of over 500 transgender people in San Francisco based on face to face interviews and the results of clinical HIV testing that was conducted by the San Francisco Department of Public Health, reported the following:

Conclusion:

Such access to healthcare suggests to the researchers that medical providers have the opportunity to provide an important link to prevention, health and social service programs for these individuals.

"What this study tells us is that we need to pay close attention to persons who identify themselves as male-to-female transgenders, not just in San Francisco, but other cities with significant transgender populations," noted Mitchell Katz, MD, Director of Health. "We need to ensure that transgender persons have access to HIV prevention, treatment and mental health services."
